Mike John Montelongo is a New York City–based musician, creative director, and educator dedicated to helping each student unlock their musical potential with confidence and joy. With years of experience as a performer, percussionist, and vocal coach, Mike brings a balance of professionalism, patience, and personalized instruction to every lesson. His approach blends technical skill-building with creative exploration—ensuring students not only learn to play but also understand and feel the music. Having directed campaigns and produced creative projects on a national level, Mike’s professionalism and attention to detail extend naturally into his teaching—creating a structured yet inspiring environment where growth thrives.

My ultimate aim is to nurture a genuine love for music, providing an engaging and enjoyable experience while gradually introducing challenges that encourage steady improvement and personal growth.
For beginners in music, three key points form the foundation of my teaching approach:
Understanding Basic Music Theory – Learning simple concepts like notes, rhythm, and scales helps students build the confidence to read and interpret music.
Developing Fundamental Techniques – From proper posture and hand positioning to basic exercises, establishing good habits early ensures long-term progress and minimizes frustration.
Cultivating Listening and Practice Skills – Encouraging students to actively listen to music and maintain a consistent, focused practice routine reinforces skills and fosters a deeper connection with their instrument.
By combining personalized instruction with these core principles, students gain the tools to grow as musicians while enjoying every step of their journey.
