About Ingrid

A little about me

Music has been at the heart of my life since I was just a little girl. As a pianist, vocalist, accompanist, performer, and educator, I have spent over 40 years immersed in music, both on stage and in the teaching studio.

My formal training includes a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus), performance and teaching qualifications through the Royal Schools of Music and UNISA, and SACE registration as a music educator. Over the years, I have had the privilege of being selected for prestigious music scholarships and participating in competitions and performance opportunities that helped shape my musical journey.

Alongside teaching, I have enjoyed a varied performing career as a pianist, vocalist, accompanist, and church musician. My experience spans solo performance, accompaniment, ensemble work, examination preparation, and mentoring students across many ages and stages of development.

One particularly meaningful creative experience was contributing to the film score for Spirit of the Eland People, which allowed me to explore music’s ability to tell stories and evoke emotion beyond words.

While qualifications and achievements are important, what matters most to me is creating a space where students feel encouraged, supported, and inspired to grow. Every learner is different, and I love helping each person discover confidence, expression, discipline, and joy through music.

Hello, I’m Ingrid van Zweel, a pianist, vocalist, accompanist, and SACE registered music educator with over 40 years of teaching, accompaniment and performance experience. I offer warm, personalized piano and vocal lessons tailored to each student’s age, goals, learning style, and musical journey.

For high school learners taking Music as a subject, I provide support aligned with the CAPS and IEB curriculum, including practical preparation, technique, repertoire guidance, music literacy, confidence-building, and examination support. I also assist students preparing for ABRSM, Trinity, and UNISA practical examinations.

My teaching style is encouraging, nurturing, and structured. I believe music lessons should feel both joyful and purposeful, building strong foundations while helping students grow in confidence, expression, discipline, and musicality.

Lessons are available for:
• School subject music support (CAPS / IEB)
• Piano lessons (beginner to advanced)
• Vocal coaching
• Practical exam preparation (ABRSM, Trinity & UNISA)
• Accompaniment and performance preparation

While many of my students are school-aged learners, I warmly welcome teens, adults, complete beginners, and those returning to music after time away. Whether your goal is exams, performance, confidence, or simply rediscovering the joy of music, lessons are thoughtfully adapted to meet you where you are.
