About Max
I’ve been drumming for over twelve years, the last four of which in a number of professional settings including: pit orchestras, rock bands, jazz groups and more. As such, I believe my range of understanding for the different demands of various styles is deep. However, my favourite style to play is jazz, because of the freedom of expression offered in the music, and have recently enrolled onto the MMus at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for Jazz Performance (the best music school in the country according to lots of lists!). I love the drums and I love even more to help students discover their passion for them as well!

With over 2+ years teaching experience, I’ve been fortunate enough to teach students of a variety of age groups and experience levels. As such, I can adapt to the student’s individual goals and needs, using a holistic method aiming to develop technical proficiency and musicality simultaneously. Lessons typically begin with a warm-up which we play either together or as ‘call and response’, before a recap of the previous week’s material. This could include groove-based exercises I’ve written, improving one’s coordination and musical vocabulary, song transcriptions, solo vocabulary, or interplay with other musicians (in which we ‘jam’ together, with me on bass or piano, depending on what feature of your playing we are working on) amongst anything else the student wishes to work on!

Max has been a great teacher to me. He is patient, concise and kind. My playing has improved significantly as he creates routined, but fun, exercises to focus on specific flaws in my playing. He is methodical, yet a personable teacher.
