About Mavi
I know that struggling in a course can sometimes to lead to self-doubt, and I know the desire to strive to do your best. Since I have been in this place before, I am able to facilitate a friendly and encouraging environment. I am someone who would always have a lot of questions but would be hesitant to ask them out of fear of sounding stupid. Therefore, I encourage all of my students to ask whatever question they may have as soon as it pops into their mind. I create a judge-free and cooperative zone that fosters an open environment. I have been lucky enough to have many mentors in my life that persisted to find a way to explain things in a way that made sense to me. I now employ this in my teaching as well: I will use different examples, models, scenarios, and styles until I find the one that makes sense to my student. I am on my student's team, when we are in a session we are working together and collaborating in order to learn and understand; I believe this creates a productive and safe environment that fosters growth in self-confidence, self-assurance, and understanding.

My teaching style is very interactive. I will always begin a session by asking if you have any questions or are confused on any concepts. I will then move onto either homework problems or my own practice problems that I provide. When attempting a problem, I always ask my students to try and attempt it first. If they seem to struggle, I ask them what they think the first steps would be or how they would approach the problem if I weren't there. I never like to tell my students the answer immediately, even when they don't know how to do a specific problem. I instead will ask guiding questions to utilize what they already know about the subject/problem. I believe that asking questions to students is very beneficial because it not only helps them clarify their thought process, but also instills critical thinking and questioning that can be applied to similar problems in the future. In addition, I like to break things down into steps, and I find it very helpful to create a checklist or step by step method to approach a problem when applicable.
