About Abayomi

Hello! My name is Abayomi Olawale, and I am a passionate talking drum tutor with a deep love for African music and culture. With several years of experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels, I specialize in helping learners understand not just how to play the talking drum, but how to "speak" through it—just as it has been used traditionally to communicate, celebrate, and inspire.

My lessons are interactive, culturally rich, and tailored to your personal learning goals. Whether you're a beginner just discovering the drum, a student studying African music, or an enthusiast eager to explore traditional rhythms, I’m here to guide you step by step.

Through patient instruction and rhythmic connection, you’ll learn:

Talking drum techniques and tone control

Traditional Yoruba rhythms and cultural context

How to play and interpret messages with the drum

Performance skills and confidence-building exercises

Join me, and let’s explore the language of the talking drum together—where every beat tells a story!

About the lesson

These lessons are designed to introduce you to the art, rhythm, and language of the talking drum, one of West Africa’s most iconic and expressive instruments.

Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to deepen your drumming skills, each session is tailored to your level and learning pace. You’ll gain both practical drumming techniques and cultural understanding of the talking drum's role in traditional African society.

What You Will Learn:

Proper hand techniques and drum handling

How to produce and control different tones

Yoruba rhythms and cultural context

The "language" of the talking drum: how it mimics speech

Traditional patterns used in praise, storytelling, and communication

Lesson Format:

Online, live, and interactive sessions

One-on-one personalized instruction

Flexible scheduling to suit your availability

Assignments and practice routines to help you improve between lessons

By the end of the course, you will not only play confidently but also understand the talking drum as a tool of expression, communication, and cultural pride.
