About Sharell

Hello, I'm Sharell! I believe that every student can succeed in math. I love watching that moment when a concept finally clicks and a student goes from frustrated to confident. That's what keeps me doing this.
Outside of tutoring, I'm a college student studying exercise science and working toward a career in healthcare. I also hold a bachelor's degree in business and have served in the military. I know how to break down complex problems into manageable steps — skills I bring into every session.
I currently tutor third-grade students, helping them strengthen math facts, build confidence with fractions, multiplication, division, and pre-algebra, and develop the habits they need to succeed independently. My sessions are structured, visual, and interactive. I use tools like Kahoot, math drills, and hands-on practice to keep things engaging and effective.

About the lesson

My lessons are built around making math stick. I work with students in grades 3 through 8, focusing on strengthening math facts, multiplication, division, fractions, and pre-algebra through visual tools, interactive games like Kahoot, and targeted math drills. Every session is structured but never boring. I use a mix of hands-on practice, repetition, and encouragement to help students build real confidence. A typical lesson starts with a quick warm-up to review what we covered last time, moves into the new concept using visuals and examples, and ends with a fun activity or drill to reinforce what they learned. What sets me apart is that I help students understand why the math works, so they can apply it on their own. I'm currently a college student studying science, which keeps me connected to what it takes to learn challenging material. If your child needs help catching up, staying on track, or getting ahead in math, I'd love to work with them.

The first lesson is a free 30-minute session so your child and I can get to know each other and I can assess where they are. After that, sessions are 45 minutes to 1 hour. I offer discounted packages for families who want to commit to weekly sessions — this is the best way to see real progress. Online sessions are available at the same rate for families outside the Alexandria area. Travel fees apply for in-person sessions beyond a 10-mile radius of Del Ray
