About Matt

I’m a patient, encouraging and down-to-earth teacher who believes learning music should be enjoyable as well as rewarding. I adapt my approach to suit each student’s personality, pace and goals, and I’m experienced working with both children and adults. I create a relaxed, supportive lesson environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and celebrating progress step by step.

About the lesson

Hi, I’m Matt Jones — a professional drummer and drum teacher based in Leigh-on-Sea with over 20 years of playing and teaching experience. I hold a Music Performance degree from California State University, Long Beach, and I’ve taught hundreds of students of all ages, from complete beginners picking up sticks for the first time to advanced drummers looking to refine their technique, timing, and musicality. My lessons are relaxed, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s goals — whether that’s learning favourite songs, improving coordination and groove, preparing for performances, building confidence, or simply enjoying the creative and therapeutic side of drumming. I teach rock, pop, funk, and contemporary styles, and I place strong emphasis on good technique, feel, rhythm, and practical musicianship. Lessons take place in Leigh-on-Sea, and I also support students with structured practice plans and clear progression so they can see real improvement week by week.
