From my previous experience of teaching, I start off by understanding the needs of the student and the level of communication or help that is needed. This understanding helps me to know what areas to put more efforts in and if needed, I research more on topics that need more focus. I try to encourage my students when they feel less confident and try to understand how the teaching could be improved to better suit their needs.
I have had under a year's worth of teaching and mentoring experience. I am able to communicate with my students effectively using a method and language understandable to them. I have a good background in learning and teaching mathematics. I had a 90% grade in mathematics in university which proves a good understanding of the course. In university, I help my colleagues out with mathematical problems using my understanding of the topic.

Relevant modules include: Power Systems Engineering enables students to analyse power systems under steady state conditions. I learnt to design power systems including protection systems, evaluate power transmission and perform load flow calculations.
Hardware Systems and Control enables students to understand the value of digital systems and their various applications. I developed my ability to integrate and synthesise material from various sources, to critically reflect on the abilities of current systems and the way challenges can be overcome using new digital design concepts.
Communications and Waves enables students to develop the knowledge and analytical skills about wireless devices and communication systems. I developed my problem-solving ability using applied electromagnetic approach. I was equipped with sound knowledge of the theories and technologies underpinning wireless systems.
Final Project: Adaptation of the Port of Dover (POD) to the electrification of transport network
Electric vehicles are rapidly being incorporated in the automobile industry because of the issues caused by fuel engines on both the environment and humans. Therefore, Port of Dover looks to install Electric Vehicle chargers to support the growing market and demand for charging points in the UK.
The aim of this project was to design a strategic plan to adapt Port of Dover’s electricity network to meet the growing electric vehicle market. The objectives of this project were to:
- Create a software model of Port of Dover’s existing electrical network.
- Design a charging system and incorporate it into the existing electrical network.
- Analyse and determine the suitability of the full electrical network including the chargers.
- Demonstrate business justification and analyse traffic impacts.
Using Power World Simulator, the existing electrical network was modelled, a new charging network was designed and incorporated in the existing electrical network. A boost converter was successfully designed using Proteus. The design contained a microcontroller which sent PWM signals to control the switching of a MOSFET within the circuit. The electrical network comprising the existing and new model was simulated and analysed. The results obtained showed that POD’s electrical network can provide the electrical demand of vehicles to be charged. DC charging was chosen as a more suitable method of charging. The boost converter was also simulated, implemented and analysed.

Port of Dover Electrical Engineer (Placement) June 2016 – July 2017
Reported to Head of Engineering Services and engineering team to design and supervise Port related engineering works. Responsible for projects and tasks in other projects.
Project management: Responsible for several projects including installation and maintenance. For example: as part of a large-scale overhaul project, I was responsible for the lighting aspect which involved inspecting existing infrastructure and designing a lighting system to fit it. The inspection of the existing lighting, containment type and support structure was carried out to identify risks, and create an implementation plan. Based on economical and feasibility factors, the existing structure and containment remained but a new circuit and wiring design including lux control devices was done.
Using DIALUX, a light design was carried out to meet Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) lighting requirements of a search area. On approval of finance, an approved contractor was contacted to supply and install the electrical components. I led the team of technicians to complete the installation and communicated the works done to asset and finance team.
Teamwork/Team Leadership: Led a team of technicians to inspect work sites, find faults, solve problems and complete installation works. I enhanced my teamworking skills by leading and working collaboratively. The key thing I learnt about being a part of a team either as a leader or as a member is the importance of putting in my individual effort and taking 100% responsibility for my task. I was part of the electrical team which supervised the installation and maintenance of fire alarm panels.
Data analysis: Identifying trends, analysing trends and interpreting obtained data while being attentive to details were essential for my role. Data sheets were obtained, interpreted and adapted to projects as required. This helped to solve problems and reduced the risk of future problems. For example, on the failure of a generating set, data from previous running was obtained from its Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system. The data was analysed to check for recurring faults or possible indications. It was observed that there was a code error in the controls of the system. The manufacturer was contacted and the problem was solved.

To build a relationship of mutual trust with mentee and make them more aware of their ability to succeed. I communicate regularly with my mentee to guide and support them in understanding their options for further and higher education, and the range of employment or training opportunities open to them. Listening and informing are key skills I use in this role.

RCCG Pastor’s Seeds Sound Technician August 2015
In a 1-week camping for youths, I worked in the technical team making sure quality sound was produced. It was a great opportunity to widen my technical knowledge and improve my communication skills as I interacted with campers. I further improved on my teamwork skills by attending team briefs every morning and being actively involved in the meetings.
