About Teruki
I have 12 years of experience playing drums in styles ranging from jazz, to indie pop, to metal, with a particular interest in improvised music traditions. In addition to drums, I'm also a composer, bassist and guitarist. With my experience, I have a deep understanding of the role of a drummer in an ensemble, and I aim to nurture drummers that are tasteful as they are technically proficient. I have taught students of all ages who have found joy and inspiration in playing drums through my lessons.

Credentials and achievements:
First-class degree in BA (Hons) Music from Leeds Conservatoire specializing in jazz drums
Performed at Clockenflap 2018 in Hong Kong, Leeds Jazz Fest '22, '23 and '24, Liverpool Sound City '24 and Manchester Jazz Fest '24 etc.
Toured across Northern England and Central Japan in 2023.
Created 7 solo albums and 10+ collaborative albums.

I provide a holistic and practical approach to teaching that sparks a natural curiosity within my students. Lessons are carefully constructed and tailored to each student's fields of interest. I provide students with a good balance of autonomy and guidance in what they learn.
Lessons include
1) basic techniques
2) standard notation and transcription
3) arrangement of original drum parts
4) performance attitude and self expression
5) practical insight into playing in a band
6) general discussions of music (music history, gig experiences, new artists to check out etc.)
