About Monica

Are you struggling in math? Do you feel like you're working so hard but you aren't seeing any progress? Are you looking for someone to pay attention to your specific needs and fill in those knowledge gaps?

I'm so happy you've made it this far because I am the tutor you have been looking for!

Before going into my background, I want to tell you about some of my students. My student Mason was a 12th grade student needing help in AP Calculus AB. He was a smart kid, but he couldn't quite figure out why his grades were slipping in this class. His teacher would teach too fast for Mason to keep up and ask questions. Mason, being a goal oriented student, had his eyes fixed on going to NC State to study Entrepreneurship and wanted to impress the admissions department with an A on his transcript for AP Calculus. It was challenging, but after working with me for three months, Mason went from an overall C to an A! Each week we met twice a week, working on homework and extra problems in topics we needed to conquer. The time spent building a solid relationship and practicing math paid off in the long run because he is now in his third year of college at NC State studying the topic he had his eyes set on all those years ago!

One more student I want to bring up- Faith. Faith is a high school student in the 10th grade who is taking precalculus. Faith mentioned their teacher also moving too quickly in their lessons, and not paying enough attention to her. After all, the teacher had their hands full with a class of over 25 students. Faith, like many students, didn't just want to pass- she wanted to succeed with an A! Her goals are to attend a prestigious college to study medicine. She knew she needed to succeed, so her family contacted me! After only 3 months, she went from making 80s on her tests to high 90s! With the right mindset, patience, and persistence, YOU can have your success story too.

If you haven't gathered by now, I live and breathe for MATH! My Bachelors degree is in Mathematics. I've tutored for the past 6 years, and successfully taught math to over 600 students. My joy and excitement truly lives in the "ah-ha!" moments I see in every student. I specialize in High School and College Mathematics including NC Math 1, NC Math 2, NC Math 3, Foundations of Mathematics, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC.

About the lesson

Passion, Patience, Persistence. The holy trinity for learning math. My approach to our math lessons would prioritize these three values.

My passion for math transcends to all those I come in contact with. Spending my free time learning about math history makes for some unique stories about the people behind the formulas!

I offer an encouraging space for my students to truly understand problems at hand. Lecturing alone is often an ineffective practice for student learning. I ask articulated questions to gauge where we have cracks in our foundation.

Finally, I offer extra personalized problems relating to your class content so that you can practice and keep your mind sharp. Practice makes PROGRESS! Forget the fixed mindset of being a "math person." You must have a GROWTH mindset to watch yourself GROW!

Above all else, math can only be learned through DOING! Practice is all that makes anyone transform their mathematical abilities from a beginner to an EXPERT!
