About Jacob
I am a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Glasgow with a strong passion for mathematics and teaching. Maths has always been central to my studies, and I enjoy helping students understand it in a clear, simple, and practical way. I believe that confidence is just as important as knowledge, so I focus on creating a supportive and relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
I want to tutor because I enjoy seeing students progress, especially when a topic that once felt confusing suddenly makes sense. Whether you are preparing for exams or just want to feel more confident in maths, I am committed to helping you reach your goals through structured, patient, and encouraging lessons.

My tutoring approach is based on clarity, structure, and confidence-building. As a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Glasgow, I use the same problem-solving techniques that engineers use: breaking questions down into simple steps, understanding why formulae work, and applying them correctly in exams.
Each lesson is tailored to the student. We usually begin by identifying weak areas or topics from school or college, then work through them using clear explanations, worked examples, and guided practice. I encourage students to explain their thinking so I can correct mistakes early and build strong mathematical reasoning.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes. During this time we review key concepts, practise exam-style questions, and go over any homework or topics the student finds difficult. I also provide tips on how to approach questions under time pressure and avoid common exam errors.
My lessons are designed for GCSE and A-Level students, including those preparing for exams, struggling with confidence, or aiming for higher grades.
I also teach younger students (KS2 and KS3), focusing on building strong foundations in numeracy, times tables, fractions, and basic algebra. For younger learners, I use clear explanations, visual methods, and step-by-step guidance to make maths feel simple and enjoyable while building confidence early.
With my engineering training and academic background in maths, I focus on making difficult topics feel logical and approachable, helping students at all levels improve their understanding and performance.
