About Oishee

Hi, I’m Oishee! I’m a Materials Science and Engineering major at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign with a minor in Economics. I actually used to think I was bad at STEM, which is a huge part of why I love teaching it now. Engineering taught me to see math and science as systems where everything connects to describe the real world. Once I began understanding math to be more than a series of formulas to memorize, I genuinely started loving subjects I used to struggle with. That is the feeling I try to give my students. I've been tutoring for the past three years, and hope to reduce the intimidation of math and engineering to students everywhere.

About the lesson

As a tutor, my main priority is meeting students where they are. I understand that everyone is starting from a different point, but I prioritize revising fundamentals to deepen conceptual understanding across all STEM classes.

A typical session will open with a warm-up question and a short chat about what the student is feeling confused about, or where they got lost in class. From there we begin breaking down practice problems, while actively fleshing out notes to understand the theory behind all the practice problems.

What sets me aside as a tutor is that I'm still in the midst of learning, and I've been experimenting with different strategies of learning and teaching myself. I can tell when I student is pretending to understand something, and more often than not during my first try with that subject I got stuck on a similar part.

These lessons are best for middle and high school students, whether they’re preparing for the SAT, struggling with STEM classes, or looking to get ahead for college preperation.
