About Estefania
I am a PhD student at UC San Diego majoring in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics. I am a long-standing Triton as I have also completed my M.S. degree in Chemistry and B.S. degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry at UCSD. My thesis advisor is Daniel Donoghue, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Co-Director, NIH Training Grant. Our lab focuses on studying oncogenic fusion genes as drivers of cancer. My most recent research exemplifies the formation of these oncogenes in correspondence to the onset of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). My extensive experience at the bench and in the classroom provides me with a unique skill set that establishes the bridge between theoretical concepts and their real-world applications.

I take a responsive approach to my teaching, as I customize my sessions to what my student specifically needs. I do regular check-ins on how students are absorbing the information and whether adjustments need to be made in my teaching style, approach, or lesson topics. Being a student myself, I know how to breakdown really complex concepts into easily digestible components.
