About Maysn

Hello, I'm Mason, and I am 20 years old and currently completing my first year of tertiary study! I'm a passionate advocate for the power of education, driven by a genuine love for English. During my high school years, I immersed myself in the worlds of literature and English, embracing the beauty of words and storytelling. This passion led me to become a writer, and I'm currently working on bringing my own book to life.

In addition, I also adore art which, has always been a source of inspiration for me. My studies are research-based, reflecting my deep love for writing, science, history and the pursuit of knowledge.

I am a firm believer in the importance of caring and empathy in teaching. My autism and ADHD have given me unique insights into diverse learning styles, allowing me to connect with students on multiple levels.

I also like the colour Pink which you will see through many objects my phone case, notebooks etc and I also value my beautiful family for their support and inspiration.

I want to empower others to achieve their dreams, providing support and guidance that I often yearned for during my challenging school years. With my passion for teaching and love for English, history, geography, science and art I aim to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where everyone can flourish.

My approach to tutoring is always different depending on many factors like type of student, age, gender etc. I believe in using this technique it allows me to adapt to the students learning needs and allows for the individual to gain a thorough understanding of the content.
Down bellow is some of the teaching techniques I use with students:
1. Assessment and Goal Setting: I always like to start by assessing the student's current knowledge and understanding of the subject. Once I have gained this insight I am then able to work with them to set clear, achievable goals to guide our tutoring sessions. Sometimes I will use tests, talk to their teachers, talk to the parents, look at past work and so on.
2. Interactive Learning: I thrive for students to have an active participation by encouraging them with questions, discussions, and problem-solving. I use real-life examples and practical applications to make the material relevant and interesting. I find questions, discussions and situations that meet the students’ interests. For example, for one student I may use examples that involve questions on paper however, for another student who hates this method I may use memory cards.
3. Customized Materials: I create or adapt teaching materials and resources to suit the student's level, age, and specific needs. This includes selecting appropriate textbooks, worksheets, and online resources.
4. Progress Tracking: I maintain records of the student's progress, which helps me identify areas that require further attention and measure the success of our tutoring sessions. I also provide these to anyone who may request them with the consent of the guardian.
5. Positive Reinforcement: I provide positive feedback and reinforcement to boost the student's confidence and motivation. Celebrating small achievements along the way can make the learning process more enjoyable. I also make sure to provide helpful criticism instead of negative criticisms.
6. Flexible Lesson Length: The length of a lesson varies depending on the student's age, attention span, and specific goals. Typically, lessons can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours with breaks at every 30 minutes. Sessions that usually go for more than an hour are usually offered to those in grade 10-12 however, I can offer them for lower grades.
7. Qualifications and Experience: I have been tutoring for nearly two years, which has given me valuable insights into various teaching methods and strategies. I was also actively involved in tutoring clubs at school, where I found my tutoring skills.
8. Target Audience: My lessons are primarily aimed at students from prep to high school. I have experience teaching all English levels, from foundational to advanced. However, I have a particular interest in helping year 11 and 12 students excel in literature, as I find this level particularly rewarding.

In summary, my tutoring approach focuses on individualised learning, fostering a supportive environment, and adapting to the unique needs of each student. My qualifications and experience equip me to provide effective guidance and support to students across different age groups with humanities.

Please note I offer lessons in Templestowe and surrounding area, Hawthorn and surrounding area and Melbourne area.
