About Alexis
I have tutored students through the summer in the past, with ages ranging from early elementary all the way up to high school. Both students and their parents have been very happy with my approach, and many times the student's grades have improved enough to where they do not need my help.
Along with my experience in tutoring, I was a "straight A" student in high school, taking many AP classes. I now attend the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, where I had a successful first year.

My approach as a tutor includes assignments that encourage active practice. I strive to improve the student's weaknesses by working through activities with them, sharing my advice and lessons as we work together. As the students begin to gain confidence and independence, they complete the assignments on their own, and we review the content together, finding both strengths and more ways to improve. Working together for time frames ranging from 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the student and content, ensures close to full engagement during the sessions without burnout. My approach aims to be flexible to the students needs while also applying methods that have worked for myself and other students I have worked with in the past.
Typical 60 minute lesson plan for Chemistry:
- 15 minutes reviewing concepts together, where the student can ask questions to clarify information and increase knowledge retention
- 45 minute where I demonstrate how to do a mathematical problem related to the content, then we complete one together, and one last problem the student does on their own. This is repeated until the end of the session.
Typical 60 minute lesson plan for math SAT preparation:
- 10 minutes discussing the results of their prior practice tests, identifying specific math content that needs improvement.
- 15 minutes reviewing these concepts by working through practice questions together. I work with the student by providing my advice and elaborating on the correct answers to questions to increase information retention.
- 35 minutes completing a practice test, either calculator or non-calculator.
