  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in mathematics developed early on I was always fascinated by how logical and structured the subject is. It felt like solving puzzles, and I loved the sense of satisfaction that came with finding the right answer. I got into private tutoring during university when I started helping classmates and later began working with younger students. I quickly saw how impactful one-on-one teaching could be and found it incredibly rewarding.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mathematics at various levels from basic arithmetic and algebra to more advanced topics like calculus and trigonometry. I particularly enjoy teaching algebra and problem-solving strategies because they lay the groundwork for so much of higher maths. Geometry is another favorite because it combines logic with visual thinking. If I had to pick a less exciting area, it might be topics that are more memorization heavy and less conceptual, like certain statistical formulas—but I still work to make those engaging.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes my secondary school maths teacher played a huge role. They had a unique ability to make abstract topics feel intuitive and always encouraged us to ask "why," not just memorize formulas. That approach shaped how I teach today. I try to pass on that curiosity and clarity to my students.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A great maths tutor needs patience, clear communication, and empathy. It’s important to explain concepts in a way that meets the student where they are, and to keep encouraging them even when they struggle. Adaptability is key, too what works for one student might not work for another, so a good tutor stays flexible and creative.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I once worked with a student who said they "hated maths" and had failed multiple tests. Over time, I realized the problem wasn’t ability it was fear. We focused on small wins, building confidence through understanding rather than rushing through problems. That student ended up getting one of the highest scores in their year. It was a powerful reminder that mindset can completely change outcomes.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

I used to struggle with word problems they felt confusing because they combined language with maths in a way that wasn’t always straightforward. Over time, I developed strategies to break them down step by step. Now, I teach those same techniques to my students, especially those who find word problems intimidating.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is helping students see that maths isn’t something to fear it’s a tool, a language, and even a kind of art. I love showing how maths connects to real life and building students’ confidence along the way. Seeing a student go from “I can’t” to “I get it!” is one of the best feelings.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I think what makes me a Superprof is my commitment to turning maths from a subject of anxiety into one of strength for my students. I focus not just on getting the answers, but on building real understanding and long-term skills. I’m patient, positive, and I genuinely care about each student’s progress.
