About James

I have taught hundreds of students from 7th grade to pre-med both in the classroom and in one-on-one settings. During this time I had extensive experience preparing students for standardized tests from the GED to the MCAT.
I use an inquiry approach to learning whenever possible, meaning I start with the student's natural curiosity about a subject and facilitate exploration.
My experience as a physician has taught me to begin by diagnosing the student's learning problem and prescribing a treatment plan custom designed to bring the student to his/her optimal level of performance.
I have prepared many students for the MCAT in recent years allowing them to achieve their dream of entering medical school.

About the lesson

I am a retired physician/surgeon with a Master's Degree in education and a New York State teacher's certificate. I taught 13 years at a pre-college level before leaving for medical school. After my career in medicine, I served as adjunct professor for pre-med students at St Petersburg College. I am well experienced in preparing students for many types of standardized tests from the GED to the MCAT. I make use of various types of texts as well as the internet in determining what approach is most successful with the individual student. I use a diagnosis/treatment approach in bringing the student to his/her optimal level of performance.
