About Chanel
I am a dedicated tutor serving students throughout the DMV area, with a recent Master of Public Administration (MPA), a Bachelor of Arts in French and Communications, and over 15 years of experience working with children and families. I also served as a teaching assistant at a bilingual school in Madrid, Spain, supporting students in a multicultural learning environment.
I specialize in tutoring kindergarten through 8th-grade students in beginner French. Before creating lessons, I conduct a pre-assessment to understand each student's current level, strengths, and areas for improvement. Using backward planning, I begin with clear learning goals and design personalized lessons that help students build the skills needed to succeed. My teaching approach is patient, engaging, and focused on building confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

My tutoring approach is centered around personalized instruction, patience, and building student confidence. I specialize in beginner French, as well as elementary and middle school English and math for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. I work with students who need academic support, homework help, skill-building, enrichment, or additional practice to strengthen their foundation.
Before beginning lessons, I conduct a pre-assessment to understand each student’s current level, strengths, and areas for growth. I use a backward planning approach, where I first identify the learning goal and then design lessons, activities, and practice exercises to help students achieve that goal. My teaching techniques include clear explanations, interactive activities, guided practice, real-world examples, and positive reinforcement to support different learning styles.
A typical lesson begins with a review of previous material, followed by an introduction of new concepts, guided practice, and independent application. I end each session by reviewing progress, addressing challenges, and setting goals for continued improvement.
What sets me apart is my experience working with young learners from diverse backgrounds, including students whose first language is not English. As a teaching assistant at a bilingual school in Madrid, Spain, I supported children developing language skills in a multicultural environment. This experience strengthened my patience, adaptability, and ability to adjust my teaching methods to meet each student’s unique needs.
My goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
