About Brooke
As a Psychology student with a deep passion for teaching, I bring patience, empathy, and structure to every lesson. I understand that every student learns differently, so I create a supportive space where asking questions is always encouraged. I stay in touch throughout each session, offering guidance while helping students reflect on their learning process. My goal is to build both skills and confidence, so every student leaves each session feeling empowered and capable.

I am eager to not just help you or your family understand math concepts, but to also ensure an enjoyable experience while doing so...!
Most passionately, my goal is to work with students to improve math skills through constant communication, interactive learning, and self-reflection to build confidence and reap the long-term benefits of independence.
I strive to begin all interactions with a quick check-in and general friendly introduction. Then we transition into a typical 60-minute lesson:
Block 1 (approximately 10 minutes): 1) Quick review using actively engaging activities - think flashcards, Kahoots, mathematical games (adjusted to age) 2) Establish purpose and set goals for lesson
Block 2 (approximately 15 minutes): 1) Introduce topic/s 2) Break down concepts into manageable chunks 3) All questions welcome
Block 3 (approximately 20 minutes): 1) Solve some example problems together
Block 4 (approximately 10 minutes): 1) Independently practicing skills 2) Help will stay close the entire time in case of any questions arising
Block 5 (approximately 5 minutes): 1) Review concepts 2) All last minute questions 3) Assess degree of competence and confidence in the concepts taught and determine next immediate course of action (i.e. extra assigned problems or review materials, continuation of concepts in next lesson, or establishing ready to move on!)
The biggest thing that sets my teaching style apart from others is my appreciation and integration of active communication throughout each lesson. This includes; reflective questions throughout (i.e. Have you seen/used this concept anywhere/at all before? What do you think we would do next?), two-way communication (adapted for students of all ages), encourage students to develop other competencies such as the ability to learn independently (AKA training them for long-term success in addition to the concepts needed short-term). With a comprehensive teaching plan, I am pleased with the opportunity to help students succeed by improving their math skills and growing in their ability to learn proactively throughout their studies.
