About Katherine

I was a student of the Yehudi Menuhin School for six years and then graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal College of Music in London.

Biography
South Korean violinist Katherine Yoon has performed in many of the world’s major concert venues including Wigmore Hall, Musikverein Vienna, Konzerthaus Berlin, Victoria Hall Singapore, Cadogan Hall, Bozar Brussels, Endler Hall South Africa and Berliner Philharmonie. Winner of the 2019 RCM Violin Competition, she was also awarded First Prize at the Haneum Competition and Music Education News Competition. Katherine performed the Mozart Violin Concerto with the RCM Chamber Orchestra in a public masterclass for Maxim Vengerov. In 2021 April, she recorded Vitali's Chaconne at the Abbey Road Studios with the LGT Young Soloists.

She has also performed at music festivals such as the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Santander Encuentro Festival and the International Holland Music Sessions. On numerous occasions, Katherine has been concertmaster of the RCM Philharmonic. She was invited to perform in Windsor Castle to lead the RCM Chamber Orchestra conducted by John Wilson with soloists such as Sir Thomas Allen and Dame Sarah Connolly. Katherine has participated in masterclasses with Pinchas Zukerman, Maxim Vengerov, Zakhar Bron, Alina Ibragimova, Mihaela Martin, András Keller and Eszter Haffner. Formed at the Seiji Ozawa Festival, she is a member of the Kleio Quartet. Their performance at the 2019 Carl Nielsen Chamber Music Competition in Denmark was broadcast live by DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation). Her chamber music coaches have included members of the Chiaroscuro, Doric, Marmen, Emerson, Endellion, and Sacconi Quartets.

Katherine previously studied with Akiko Ono at the Yehudi Menuhin School. She graduated with a First Class Honours for the Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal College of Music in London. Katherine studied with Itzhak Rashkovsky on a full scholarship as a recipient of the Anne and Brian Wadsworth Scholarship and the ISH Award. She was supported by the Drake Calleja Trust in 2020/21. Katherine is currently pursuing her Masters degree at the RCM as an ABRSM Scholar. She plays on a 1741 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, on loan from the RCM.

About the lesson

Depending on each student, my teaching methods vary. Each student gets a personalised lesson according to their needs!

I believe that making students fall in love with music is a crucial part so that they enjoy playing their instruments.
I can help improve their technical skill, mature their musical ideas and allow them to enjoy their practice.

For seven years, I have been teaching a wide range of students and my experience includes private teaching, group teaching and chamber group coaching.

My current students range from beginner to advanced levels and I have helped them develop stronger technical facilities, improve their practice and most importantly, make them passionate about music and performing :)

Katherine will go above and beyond to help you grow as a musician. She is also extremely sweet, funny, and caring. I used to dread practicing because I have a short attention span, but lessons with Katherine has been really helpful because she gives you practical advice on how to go about difficult passages, etc. Katherine's guidance has made me appreciate music and enjoy playing the violin more, and I couldn't recommend a better teacher.

Kasey

Katherine is the most patient teacher and musically talented violinist I have ever met. She can not only teach you how to play verbally but also able to show you how to play technically on the instrument itself. She is so energetic and funny:)
