About Alex
I am a PhD student at UCL doing research in high energy physics, with a focus on the MINOS neutrino experiment and photomultiplier R&D. I am originally from Plymouth and have moved here to write my thesis. During my 4 years as a research student I was involved in teaching, both practical and theoretical modules, which was one of the highlights of the experience.
I attended DHSB between 2011-2018 and achieved 12 A* grades at GCSE and 3 A* grades at A-level in maths, physics and chemistry. These subjects have been a source of profound interest to me and I hope to pass on this enthusiasm to students.

I believe in a syllabus focused approach with regular testing to identify blind spots. Lessons should be tailored to individuals based on specific requirements and proximity to exams, to maximise effectiveness. The priority is ensuring that concepts taught in school are properly understood and can be used in every type of formulaic response to exam questions. Additionally, understanding the fundamentals of a particular subject and their relations allows for a derivative approach to excel at the questions aimed at high level students. I believe these skills can be developed by guided discussion, working through problems, and reviewing practice papers.
