About Matthew
I am in the last year of my PhD degree at Trent University, in Peterborough, Canada. I have a background in teaching social anthropology, history of science, the history and production of documentary film, and Canadian history and political science. I have been teaching these subjects at the university level for the past seven years.

I am a very flexible teacher who can accommodate a variety of needs. My academic background is very interdisciplinary and so I am familiar with a number of different disciplines and subjects. My approach to teaching is driven by my students' interests and needs. I value curiosity and a willingness to explore new ideas, wherever they take us. I am happy to provide a formal lecture for those students who learn best by listening, and equally happy to make my classes discussion-based, engaging my students with questions and conversation. I am supportive and focus on providing constructive feedback aimed at helping my students continually develop their ideas and achieve noticeable improvement. I am adept at helping my students identify and develop suitable topics for essays and papers, providing feedback on ideas and drafts, and generally advising on all elements of essay preparation, such as grammar and sentence structure, writing thesis statements, referencing, etc.
