About Bahrathi
I will be starting my degree course of Economics at the University of St. Andrew's in September with A* and A grades in Mathematics and Further Mathematics A-Levels.
Having taken up both paid and voluntary roles, I have assisted students struggling with A-Level and GCSE Mathematics for the past three years. A particular highlight was being chosen to lead tutoring sessions for fellow students struggling with A-Level Mathematics during my time in sixth form. I was able to help numerous students improve their grades in time for end-of-year exams, bumping up their predicted grades and in turn strengthening their university applications.
Having spent two months volunteering in Kenya from January - March 2020 teaching life skills and entrepreneurship lessons to young women, I am a confident and attentive teacher, able to identify students' problems and work to correct them.

As a gap year student beginning my undergraduate Economics degree at the University of St. Andrew's in September 2020, I attained A* and A grades in my Maths and Further Maths A-Levels last year. I teach secondary and sixth form age students (11-18) who would like to improve their Maths, as I am a passionate believer that anyone can have a better understanding of the subject with the right teacher, and I aim to pass on this passion to my tutees.
In order to get the best out of my students, we will first have a discussion of the syllabus to decide which topics or skills they feel they need the most help on, and which they feel most confident with. Using this feedback as a guide, we will work through the topics systematically, ensuring the student’s knowledge is well-rounded and developed and the student feels confident going into exams or answering questions in class.
In going over the syllabus, I will first explain the key points of the topic, then the student and I will talk through a question from the topic as an exemplar. Finally, they will attempt some questions independently, while I assist where necessary. This approach builds the student's confidence as they quickly learn to tackle the problems on their own, with the guidance of an example question as a framework. Having recently finished my own schooling and experienced the same approach from some of my best teachers, I know it is extremely effective which is why I adopt it in teaching my students.
Priding myself on my meticulous organisation, I will also always prepare lesson plans and notes well ahead for the students to keep if they wish, as well as setting homework for the student to consolidate their learning.
