About Sophia
I am currently a nursing student in Portland Oregon. It is very important to me to understand other people, so I have taken courses on inclusion and diversity, as well as a course that focuses on development. I have always enjoyed spending time with children and have volunteered with various organizations to do so. In addition, I have enjoyed various hobbies throughout my life including music, art, sports, and, baking. I am also a nature enthusiast and enjoy hiking around Portland Oregon and different National Parks in the United States.

I will first focus on the student and what their current understanding of the topic (Assessing the student current knowledge of the subject). With that in mind I will create a goal of what they need to work on to be proficent or have a better understanding of the topic, in addition keeping in mind of what the student want to achieve. Ideally I want to work with students who are in elementery school, so I will create a SMART goal that is realistic for their level of knowledge that we can achieve in the given time-period. I will start working with what they understand and slowly incorporate what they need to work on in the lesson, making sure they are comfortable and not overwelmed with the information that they are learning. Ending the lesson of using the teach- back method making sure they understand how they got the answer. During the next lesson I will ask them what they remember from the previous lesson and work from what they understood and remembered. What sets me apart as a tutor is that I will focus on the student and how they are feeling about the topic, making sure they feel comfortable before moving on in a pace that works for them.
