About James
My name is James (杰文 or جيمس), and I am a Mechanical Engineering student with a mathematics minor. I will help anyone understand math so well that they can point out real-life applications within a week of meeting me.
I work best with middle school and high school math, but I can also assist with several undergraduate college courses too. Here is a list of the most common courses students have asked me for help in:
• Algebra I, II & Pre-Algebra • AP Calculus (AB & BC) • Calculus & Pre-Calculus • Differential Equations • Engineering Economics • Geometry • Linear Algebra • AP Physics (any) • Trigonometry
Background:
I grew up in Europe and Asia my whole life — hence the Mandarin and Arabic names above — but I was always focused on math. I can work with both accelerated learners or slower learners, and I’ve also worked with students from different backgrounds (including those where neither of us spoke a common language). Because of that, patience is at the core of how I teach.

Lessons are personalised and focused on being both patient and flexible. I enjoy going over practice problems but I am very happy to teach new concepts using real-life analogies –sometimes with my photos, but I like to draw :)
What sets me apart is that I never get upset at anyone making mistakes, asking "dumb" questions or even asking the same thing multiple times. Generally, we work together to figure out where you followed a different approach and got a different answer.
These lessons are typically for middle-high school math classes but I can work with college undergraduate level due to my college degree in Mechanical Engineering. I'm flexible with whoever as long as I learn a bit about you first.
