About Leo

I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, I have been privately tutoring in Maths for 3 years at GCSE and A Level. I achieved 2 A* grades in Maths methods and applications in year 10 and 3 A* grades at A Level in Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

I have tutored multiple students who achieved much improved grades than they were originally predicted.

During my gap year I was employed as a teaching assistant at a local secondary school. My role was working one to one or in small groups with students who needed targeted help in order to improve their current working level. Throughout this time, I gained experience in classrooms and learnt skills and techniques from much more experienced teachers, which I now use in my own tutoring. This also allowed me to gain invaluable and up to date knowledge of A Level and GCSE specifications and what examiners expect from students in GCSE and A Level exams.

About the lesson

My teaching method is extremely varied, I find the most effective method is to adapt to the unique learning style of every student. For example, some students will respond very well to step by step examples and others will need to try the problems themselves in order to gain understanding. A mix of different methods tailored to the individual is what I find works best.

However, I will always provide resources in advance of the session, this enables students to look through material to gain an understanding of what will be covered. I will also provide resources which can be completed independently between sessions and then give feedback on these questions.

I am very patient and always more than willing to cover topics multiple times to be confident that the student has a deep and thorough understanding. I believe shallow learning is easy to achieve but also easily forgotten, so I really try my best to ensure students know why they are doing certain things and don't just follow a standard method.
