About Patrick
To Whom It May Concern, My name is Patrick Roffe, I am a graduate Physicist from the University of Manchester where I was educated to Master’s degree level. Before university, I attended Christ’s Hospital which is a prestigious boarding school located in the heart of West Sussex in England from age 11 to 18 years old. My tutoring career started during my time at university where I spent my spare time tutoring as a means to support myself during my time there. After graduating I found that tutoring had been more than a way to pay for my beer at university, it had become a subtle passion of mine. As such, after moving home I decided to take it on full time and soon found myself tutoring 10 pupils twice a week through private home sessions and a study group that I ran out of my local library. My main approach to tuition has always had the emphasis on teaching students how to study and how to find enjoyment in it rather than a pure focus on learning to pass exams. The principles of learning expand far beyond the realms of education and giving students these fundamental skills and the positive feedback students give as their confidence in themselves grows is where I derive the most enjoyment from tutoring. It is my opinion that it is the teacher not the subject that makes or breaks whether a student excels in the classroom. Studying should never be viewed as a punishment and as such I always strive to make sure classroom sessions are full of laughter and encouragement whenever appropriate. Of course at the same time studying is about self-improvement and struggle, therefore as and when it is appropriate I will always incorporate in the correct level challenge in order to identify areas for improvement and to hallmark major milestones of success. I myself, am a self-motivated and driven individual who presents a personable and articulate demeanour, with a strong moral system based on honour and respect. I am a keen swimmer, photographer, reader and cook. I am confidently independent and respectful of others. Kind is what I believe my friends would describe me as. My main philosophy is that everyone is always better than you at something and as such there is a great deal to be learnt from others. I hope this helps you to give a better understanding of the type of tutor and person that I am. "Patrick tutored my daughter in Maths from September 2017 through to April
2018. She had lost her confidence and was dreading her imminent GCSE exam.
Patrick's style (confident , clear and concise)suited her and before long
she could feel the improvement in her confidence and approach. Patrick
