About Ari
Hey! I'm Ari, a college freshman major in Applied Math at Virginia Tech. I've taken and scored 4.0 in Precalculus Honors, AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics, and all prior math courses from K-12(algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc.). Last year, I also took and received a score of 95% on my Multivariable Calculus final exam.
Outside of school, I am a 2 time American Invitational Mathematics Examination qualifier(top 3.8% in the country), and have participated in other competitions like the Stanford and Berkeley Math tournaments, receiving honorable mention(top 40%) in them.
I think of the teaching process as a journey. That journey doesn't end when you've understood the math you need for, say, your Algebra 2 class in high school, but my job as a teacher is to provide a base of understanding you can rely on and show you that math is far more interesting than what school has made kids believe.

My teaching approach involves using analogies and drawing parallels relevant to the person I am teaching; the aim is to help them intuitively understand the concepts so they don’t get stuck when problems force them to step out of their comfort zone. To me, active engagement is the key, so I make sure students have examples to make sense of the concepts. In my class, we will not simply be regurgitating the formulas your teacher told you to memorize for this week's. Instead, we'll prioritize intuition - I want my students to get a real feel for the math they're learning. More emphasis is placed on truly internalizing concepts as opposed to just figuring out how to finish homework.
My goal is to be a guide and tailor each students' learning experience to their own lives in a way that personally resonates with them. I believe my age puts me in a unique position to be more relatable than an adult teacher perhaps could, and I think that will make it for easier for my students to enjoy talking to me. I'm just their friend, helping them along the way.
