I was an Assistant Teacher in a primary school for children aged 5-11 years, hence I needed to teach them all the subjects.
I was also a tutor for some of the kids aged 11 and older, since in India I was eligible to teach the students of class 10th.

I have always believed that every child can enjoy learning — they just need the right approach. When I taught primary school students in India, I used a learning-through-play methodology that helped even the least interested students become curious and confident.

Throughout the week, I introduced small activities and games linked to the concepts we were learning. Every Saturday, we turned those ideas into a fun, hands-on event. One of the most memorable was our Fancy Dress Activity. Instead of giving students ready-made costumes, I encouraged them to create their own. If a child wanted to be a tomato, they first drew a tomato, wrote the word “tomato,” and then we transformed their artwork into a costume they proudly wore. Moments like these showed me that children can achieve anything when we guide them with patience and creativity.

These activities were especially powerful for students who didn’t naturally enjoy studying or struggled with certain subjects. I found that when learning feels connected to real life, students suddenly become interested. For subjects like Mathematics and Science, I always tried to relate concepts to everyday experiences so they felt simple and meaningful.

Here are two easy examples I often used:

Mathematics – Understanding Mean (Average):
Instead of explaining formulas, I asked students to think about body temperature. Our normal temperature is around 97.7°F. If we check our temperature at different times of the day, the “mean” simply tells us the average of all those readings. Suddenly, the concept felt practical and easy.

Science – States of Matter:
I explained solids, liquids, and gases using a simple example: an ice cube. When it’s frozen, it’s a solid. When it melts, it becomes water — a liquid. If we heat it, it turns into steam — a gas. Students loved watching this change, and the concept stayed with them.

By connecting lessons to daily life, I saw students who once avoided math or science become excited to participate. My goal has always been to make learning feel natural, joyful, and achievable — because when children enjoy the process, understanding follows effortlessly.
