About Shannon
For almost 10 years I have been tutoring a wide range of STEM subjects to all types of learners, ranging from elementary to graduate level students. I aim to figure out which learning style works best for my students and curate plans specific to each one. I initially started out on the pre-med track and even went as far as taking the MCAT. As a student with ADHD, learning was frustrating. I would read the books and do the work but I never fully grasped the subjects. I failed intro chem and bio TWICE my first year of college. But then I figured out the best way for me to understand and retain the information I was being taught. From that point on I was on the dean's list every semester and graduated from VCU with my BS in biology and chemistry. While being a doctor was my initial goal, my heart belonged somewhere else, and that place is space! I am now one semester away from graduating with my master's in medical microbiology and biochemistry with the ultimate goal of getting my PhD in an astrobiology related field. In my eyes, there is no such thing as failure, there are only opportunities to learn and be better than we were the day before, even if it’s only by 1%.

My best professors were the ones that had a genuine passion for the subject while also making learning interesting and fun. I like to associate the topics I tutor with the interests my students have. I also like to ensure my students have the fundamental knowledge needed for the topics they’re learning. This makes the whole process less stressful and allows them to navigate through problems with all the tools they’ll need. Every person learns at their own rate and there should never be shame in not understanding a concept or having to take a few steps back. The topics I tutor include, but are not limited to: •high school biology through graduate level biology; almost every topic from microbiology to astrobiology! •high school chemistry up to organic chemistry and biochemistry •college level physics 1 &2 •algebra through calculus
