About Thomas
Currently a Physics student aspiring to be a physics professor. I have extensive understanding of all mathematical subjects up to calculus I. As I progress through my major the number of subjects will increase. I am extremely skilled at identifying areas for improvement and helping explain them in a way everyone can understand. I am also currently serving in the United States Navy, so my hours are subject to change with time. Thank you for your consideration and hope to hear from you soon!
I've always loved teaching. The best thing about it is when a student finally understands something they've been struggling with, their faces light up with happiness and excitement.
I have no official experience teaching.
My unofficial experience dates well back into high-school when I would help virtually every other student in any STEM related class.
And I suppose I just continued tutoring even to this day. I just figured I may as well try my hand at professional tutoring.
As mentioned before I am currently a student, so I know and remember the problems I had and how I got around them.
Additionally at my command in the Navy the entire command already uses me as a math tutor. I was designated shop "Training Petty Officer" for a period of 1 year as a collateral duty.

Finding out who they are and their personalities and trying to find common ground, its extremely hard to teach someone who doesn't like you. Then identifying their areas of difficulty and why they find it difficult. Then breaking down the subject matter in a new or different way that they likely haven't thought of yet. End by reinforcing that they do know it and are capable of doing it on their own.
Often times I've noticed that teachers or tutors teach a student problems and step memorization. This is not a very effective teaching method. I don't teach them what to think, or use memorization if possible, i don't teach solutions. I teach development, I teach a student how to think, and how to come up with solutions on their own. How to approach a problem using the tools that they know. So when they get that curveball question, they are able to adapt and handle it.
What I've learned is that often times that when a student gets stuck on a problem, they usually have all the tools and knowledge they need to solve it, they just aren't sure how to apply it. As a tutor I would make it my goal to teach them how to apply their skills by bridging the small gaps in their knowledge that prevent them from solving the problem. And then letting them solve it themselves.
Mostly everyone I've tutored is ages 16 and up.
Look for a teacher that you like and get along with. You won't learn from someone who you don't like. Also, looking over what you need help with and having questions to ask ahead if time will make it much easier for your teacher to identify the areas you are weakest in.
I recently took a road trip through the southern portion of America. It was beautiful and relaxing. It's just a shame that due to covid I wasn't able to experience everything I wanted to. Ill have to do it again soon!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my educational goals? Am I looking to prepare for a test? Am I looking to fill a gap in my knowledge? Or am I just trying to pass the class? What do I understand and what don't I understand?

I do not have a standard pricing system. Nor am I particularly interested in the money at the moment. I mostly am seeking official experience as I already have over a year of "unofficial" experience tutoring math students in the Navy.
If i feel im good enough to get paid. And my reviews are good, Ill start charging. But that has yet to be seen.
