About Victor

I have been tutoring students on a wide range of levels for over 13 years. What I love about tutoring is that I can focus on the individual needs of each student. Everybody learns differently and I like to help students become aware of their learning patterns.

Helping a student overcome their difficulties means a lot to me. Those little triumphs are very energizing and I feel grateful to be able to be part of that process.

I have always felt a passion for teaching. The "aha" moments that a student experiences when we work together on a problem and they finally reach an understanding make me very happy.

I have been tutoring since I was in high school. I have two master's degrees and I am a Mathematics PhD candidate. I have been a teaching assistant for about eight years and I have been the instructor of record for four different math classes.

About the lesson

I like to see the student try an exercise first, so I can assess what the problems are and make a plan. I like to help my students become aware of their learning patterns and how to develop better strategies for improvement.

I have tutored middle school, high school, college, and even graduate students. I can teach a very wide range of courses and I feel confident working with students of any age.

Find someone you feel comfortable asking any question, someone who listens to you and focuses on you, rather than simply exposing the material. A tutor is not someone who shows expertise in a subject, but someone who focuses on the human they have in front and in strategies to help them thrive.

Recently I worked with an adult woman who is going for a master's degree in computer science. She was taking a discrete mathematics class, which covers foundational material about sets, functions, and some combinatorics. She was struggling a lot because it had been many years since she had done any type of math. We worked a lot and she got a B in her class which she was very happy about. Seeing her thrive gave me strength during a difficult moment in my own life.
