I have had the pleasure of knowing Rebecca since I was 12 years old. I was homeschooled for half a year and my mom found Rebecca to teach me the math curriculum. Little did we know that I would go to Rebecca every Wednesday for math tutoring for many years to come.

For the next 5 years and even into my college years I sat at her dinner table as she walked me through my assignments.

I never had any teacher that understood my brain as well as Rebecca did.

Math and I are like water and oil, we don’t mix...unless shaken. Rebecca never once made me feel incompetent or dumb. Instead, she tried to understand my thought process. She actually taught me about math. She taught me how math works and why it works. Even through those tough teenage years, when you think you know everything, she continued to study my “Know It All” brain. Teaching me the value of math and instilling in my brain little tricks or funny sayings that would help me remember an order to a formula.
Now, being a 25 year old woman and a teacher myself, I now teach those same sayings to my students. I was lucky and blessed enough to have a teacher that understood me and wanted to understand me. Thanks to her, I absolutely LOVE teaching Math.

To say that math is not my subject is a gross understatement. I hated math with a fiery passion. It was only through Becca’s guidance and patience that I succeeded at all. She was my tutor for years and it never even occurred to me to go anywhere else. She means the entire world to me, she’s become my family. I wouldn’t recommend anyone other than her to tutor math. She is 100% committed and never gave up on me.

In all honesty, before Mrs.Cates help I barely knew basic multiplication. I was also not one to understand something by looking at a text book or taking notes from teacher-lead examples. With Mrs.Cates help, she engaged all of us with creating games, and finding new ways to teach this dreadful subject. She even wrote us a lesson that used pythagorean theorem to plot our own planets, creating aliens for each step of the way and completing equations that we would need if we were to create something like our own planet. She really carried us through our math years and gave us a part of the day to look forward to. She rocks!
