I am currently a math teacher at a local middle school & high school. I have three rules for my students and I run tutoring the same:
1. Have fun!
2. Do your best!
3. Respect your classmates!
I have fun with math and work to teach students to be self-sufficient.

I first find out what they are working on and then what their goals are for the material.
Then I ask what they have tried. It is important to understand what a student knows so it can be built upon.
Once we get all that I like to agree on short, middle, and longer term goals and then we work to those.
