About Beth

I have been teaching at a private school the past six years and have had success in helping students understand the technical aspects of math and of the English language.

My previous experience has been instructing my children with their education since the early 90s from K-12.

I recently started The Learning Den as a place of business for tutoring students and to sell used curriculum. COVID-19 altered those plans. However, it has opened new doors through online tutoring that I am excited to adjust to.

My greatest joy is when a student sits across from me (physically or virtually) and I hear them say, "Oh!"

I have been educating since the early 90s within the homeschool arena; teaching, not only my own children, but others, as well. Outside of homeschooling, I have taught in various co-ops and I am currently teaching at a private school. Through the years, I have honed my skills with elementary to higher level maths and with the technical aspects of writing and grammar.

Ask a series of questions to find out their skill level and what causes them difficulties. From there, we will use their resources or I will supply exercises to hep them understand and work through their tasks.

I have worked with a variety of age levels and in various subject matters. Currently, I teach elementary and junior high science, Math 5, 6, Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 1, and STEM and beginning art for grades 1-4.

Don't be afraid of what you don't understand. Have patience and put in the effort. In time, you will see a reward.

There is nothing greater than physically seeing a student's "lightbulb" spark and give clarity to something that was once obscured. That recently happened with a new student. It was as if her world of math opened up right before her eyes, and I got to witness that! How cool?!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Review your assignments. Circle the problems that are giving you difficulties.

Be honest about any difficulties other than the task at hand. Example: Do you have dislexia? Do you have a difficult time keeping focused? In those, the question would be how to overcome such issues.
