About Ashley
Having just graduated high school myself last year, I can really relate to the ups and downs of the whole experience, especially with Covid thrown into the mix. I see a lot of students feeling left behind with the pandemic and not understanding how to get caught up. I think that I can help walk them through the process of getting on track again since I too went through over a year of Zoom calls that seemed to go through one ear and out the other at times.
As a tutor, there's nothing like when something clicks for a student. It could be a subject that they originally hated but then, once that little spark ignites from an example or some acronym that was mentioned and a huge smile forms ear to ear, that's what makes teaching so amazing.
I've always been very interested in exploring the world and trying to discover all there is to know about it. In the process, I realized my love for sharing that fascination with others which has led me to teaching. I think it's so important for kids to start to see school as an opportunity for learning rather than a chore which I try to promote in my lessons.
I am a sophomore at Tufts University majoring in biopsychology on the pre-medical track. I have been tutoring middle and high school students on a volunteer and paid basis for the past 3 years in all subjects and ranging from Honors and CP classes to AP. Additionally, I have taught in multiple schools across the world including in Peru, Guatemala, and Nepal.

I find it much more valuable to actually get to know my students before immediately diving into content. I think familiarizing myself with which learning languages work best for each student and utilizing that in sessions is beneficial for engaging with the content. Over time, we can build a relationship where the student is no longer overwhelmed by their classwork but forming a growing curiosity.
Primarily middle school students with below average scores, however, I have also worked with high schoolers in all APs and worked with them on time management.
School is a mindset. Once a project or subject becomes too daunting in someone's mind, it becomes debilitating to try to understand and complete it. However, you can turn learning into a game where information flows and assignments are just the evidence of what you have achieved.
I'm currently solo backpacking through India and just finished a gorgeous 4-day trek through the himalayas. I loved learning more about Kashmiri history in regard to the Indian-Pakistani Conflict over the territory and how it has shaped their culture.
