About Katherine

My name is Katherine and I am a current student, athlete, and experienced tutor at Columbia University. I have been tutoring for the past year and would love to continue my tutoring experience with you! I generally work with high school students and offer tutoring services in Biology Honors, Chemistry Honors, AP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and math courses up to Algebra II (I have received an exam score of 5 on all the aforementioned AP exams). In high school I passed each class with straight A's, and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I am also an AP Scholar with Honors!

While the Covid-19 virus has been extremely disruptive in terms of education, students should not halt their dreams of entering excellent universities. I offer experience in the above subjects and would also love to be able to answer any questions that you may have on Columbia University and getting to similar universities. I love interacting with other students to help them reach their full potential. If you are interested please reach out, and I hope to work with your daughter or son in order to help them get to where they want to be!

I started as a English IV Honors teaching assistant. With my success in more rigorous classes, such as AP Chemistry and Biology, I began meeting with students individually who were looking for additional help and guidance in the material.

I am a high school graduate and current student at Columbia University in New York. My background includes both AP and Honors courses in addition to Dual Enrollment courses in high school. I am also on the Columbia Women's Soccer Team and understand the rigors of balancing high level academics with extracurricular activities.

About the lesson

My typical process with working with a new student includes first meeting with the student to determine their current status academically and to learn their goals for the subject matter. I then put a plan in place working with the student to understand the specific gaps in their knowledge and address these gaps with a combination of content review and problem solving. As necessary, I also work with the student to assist with any practice exam material and quizzes as appropriate.

I primarily work with middle school and high school students in the science and math fields.

I would advise the student to look for a tutor who is well-rounded and knowledgeable in the subject matter. I would also recommend a tutor who takes the time to understand the student's needs and who tailors each tutoring session to addressing these needs in a prioritized fashion. The student should look for a tutor who puts a plan in place with specific milestones to ensure the student will reach his or her goals in the appropriate time.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think through a number of questions, including what are the student's short-term and long-term goals, and how does the subject matter fit into these goals. What are the problem areas that the student is facing and needs help with? Does the student have the prerequisite knowledge needed for their current course?
