About Von-Marie

I am a retired teacher with over 25 years experience. I have earned a bachelors in mathematics and a masters in secondary education. I have been tutoring students for over 20 years because I believe that every child can achieve with loving and caring encouragement.

I love that ah-ha moment when the student makes that connection with the content. I believe that every student can achieve the goals if they believe in theirselves. My job is to build that confidence and self esteem.

My services are ONLINE ONLY but will travel to clients in Middletown, NY if preferred.

i started as a peer tutor for my school Mercy College and fell in love with helping not only children but adults as well with learning mathematics. One student from the group asked if I could tutor her privately and i accepted. She excelled and passed her math courses achieving a better average than she expected.

My education/training are as follows:

- Bachelors of Science in Mathematics

- Masters of Science in Secondary Education

- worked in the Educational System for over 25 years as an Assistant Teacher

- worked as a peer tutor in College

- tutored students for over 20 years in all grade levels.

About the lesson

I believe successful tutoring begins with building a relationship with both the student and their family. My goal is not simply to help students complete assignments, but to help them develop confidence, strengthen their mathematical skills, and believe in their ability to succeed.

I have been an educator for over **25 years** and have been providing private tutoring services since **2002**, specializing in **all areas of mathematics**. I began tutoring adults taking college-level mathematics courses and later expanded my services to middle school students in grades 6–8. As families began referring siblings and other students to me, my tutoring services grew to include students from **3rd grade through high school**, as well as adult learners.

My Approach to Tutoring

Before beginning regular tutoring sessions, I like to meet with the parent or guardian to learn more about the student's academic needs, strengths, challenges, and goals. I also give the student a **short grade-level assessment** so that I can better understand their current skills and identify areas that may need additional support.

After reviewing the assessment, I discuss a tutoring plan with the parent and student. This allows us to establish realistic goals and determine how we will work together to help the student make progress.

I also take time to meet with the student, introduce myself, explain my expectations, and most importantly, listen to their concerns. I want students to know that tutoring is a safe place to ask questions, make mistakes, learn, and grow.

One thing I always tell my students and their parents is:

**“I am only as good as you make me.”**

Tutoring is a **partnership** between the tutor, student, and family. Students must be willing to participate, communicate, practice, and put forth their best effort. I believe this partnership has been one of the keys to my success as an educator and tutor.

Experience With Diverse Learners

Throughout my career, I have worked with students with a wide range of learning styles, academic abilities, and educational needs. As a **special education educator with experience working with students with special needs and learning disabilities**, I understand that every student does not learn in the same way.

I am always willing to make reasonable accommodations and adjust my teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of my students. I believe in meeting students where they are academically and helping them move forward at a pace that encourages both progress and confidence.

What Should You Look for in a Tutor?

I believe students and families should look for someone who:

* Has experience and knowledge in the subject area
* Is patient, caring, and encouraging
* Takes the time to understand the student's individual challenges
* Can explain concepts in different ways when necessary
* Is willing to adjust instruction to the student's learning needs
* Builds confidence while strengthening academic skills
* Communicates with both the student and family

Most importantly, students should feel comfortable asking their tutor questions and saying, **“I don't understand.”** That is often where real learning begins.

Online Tutoring

For students who prefer online tutoring, I conduct virtual sessions using **Google Meet**. Online tutoring allows students to receive individualized mathematics support from the comfort of home while still having a live, interactive lesson.

My tutoring rate is **$40.00 per hour**.

A Success Story That Makes Me Proud

One of my proudest tutoring experiences involves a student I began working with when he was in middle school. I continued tutoring him through two years of high school and watched him grow academically and personally.

He is now a high school senior and received a **full scholarship to the University of Illinois**.

Watching a student whom I have known since middle school reach such an important milestone is exactly why I continue tutoring. Every student's journey is different, but seeing students gain confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach is incredibly rewarding.
