About Paul

With 7 years of private school math and computer science teaching, I love to see students grow and master challenging topics.

I work with students of all levels to learn not just how to solve specific types of questions but to understand the underlying structure and foundations of mathematics.

I hold a bachelor's in Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and I am currently working on a master's in Computer Science at Arizona State University.

Outside of learning and teaching, I am an outdoor enthusiast, mountain biking, dirt biking, and skiing are my main adrenaline sports of choice!

- I fell in love with mathematics after taking my first Calculus class, so much so that I switched from GeoPhysics to Pure Mathematics for my bachelor's degree.

- 7 years of experience in high school math and computer science teaching.

- 11 years of experience in tutoring mathematics

When working with a new student I want to first learn what they need from me and why they are seeking a tutor. I will then balance the current work that a student is learning with making sure they understand the fundamentals that will make them a life long learner. My motto is to teach students how to think not what to think!

- I have worked with all types of students, I welcome diversity in ability and discipline. My favorite students are those that work hard and are internally motivated. My role as a tutor is to help students find their own discipline and love for learning.

Make sure your tutor is going to ask you questions that help guide you to coming to your own understanding of a topic aka the Socratic Method :)

- My favorite moments have been working in a math lab at the private school I worked at where students opt to attend. The environment of answering so many different questions from many different levels was very rewarding but also challenging!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Can you identify and give the correct words/nomenclature to the problem that you are not understanding if not then your first objective is to figure out what the topic is called and how to articulate your question properly! This is the initial work of the learner trying to grasp understanding. The other question is are you afraid of failing? Because failure is the beginning of learning and mastery!
