About Sohum

Hello All,

My name is Sohum Desai and I am a sophomore Electrical Engineering Major at UCLA. I am looking for tutees interested in mastering their math skills in any topic ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus and AP Calculus AB/BC. I will be using a curriculum based off of the one used by Mission San Jose High school, one of the top STEM high schools in California. I believe this will help students best prepare for what’s coming during school. Furthermore, if you are taking AP Calculus AB, I can help prepare students for the AP Calculus BC test as well. Tutoring sessions will be based on tutees availability and will be scheduled at least 2 days in advance. Due to the current state of the world due to Covid-19, all sessions will be online.

Qualifications:

-Received A’s in two semesters of Precalculus and two semesters of AP Calculus BC.

-Received a 5 (full score) on AP Calculus BC.

-Took Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear algebra college classes

-tutored math for 4 years ongoing to various children around my area across various subjects . Average rating is 9/10 from all students

I've always looked at math as a foundational subject, and have built up and continue to grow my knowledge of the subject. Being as important as it is to me, I love seeing my tutees understand the subject and truly learn to appreciate it for its beauty. I also enjoying learning new teaching styles from child to child bases on their needs and wants from the tutoring.

I first started with tutoring my friends in math courses, I had taken in prior years. I began to realize I enjoyed the teaching process and my friends were receptive to my methods as well. I transitioned to volunteering as a tutor and taking jobs as a private tutor.

I have been tutoring kids from local high school and elementary for approximately four years and have received many raving reviews. As a current second-year Electrical Engineering major at UCLA, I have extensive experience with foundational math and feel very comfortable with the subject in its entirety.

About the lesson

My typical process begins with assessing some of the student's short and long term goals for the tutoring, whether it be study help, test prep, or even just someone to discuss difficult topics with. Then I create a curriculum schedule to make sure the goal is meant by the necessary time frame. We will then go through a session or two, as I try to pick up on what teaching strategies seem to work best with the student, talking it through with the student along the way. By the end, the student and I will have a mutual understanding of how we are going to achieve and possibly surpass their goals.

Algebra 2/ Trigonometry- 30-35/hr

Geometry/Algebra 1 or below $30/hr
