About Kiana

I have had years helping younger students and family members understand their ciriculum during various points in my life. It all started in Middle school where I tutored another person who had the lowest grades in my class. When this person passed my class well above my expectations the amount of gratitude and pride I experienced was truly worth taking the time out of my schedule to help another. In both Math and Science I have tutored students in the same grade and below me throughout my highschool years. Including my Junior experience of helping elementary students in Math and English ontop of my hybrid High School and college classes. I had actually skipped a grade in the sciences so I was further ahead, I am glad that the Upper New York protocals had accepted my advancement. I will always be there patiently and thoughtfully providing the neccessary information given to you.

In Middle School I had tutored a fellow classmate who had failing grades, I was suggested by my teacher.

during sophmore and junior years of High School I entered in the Buddy Program. This program was a tutoring program for elementary kids that are struggling with math and english, by this time I was in the middle of my first college class as well. From Middle School to High School I would participate in tutoring my peers, and underclassment, upon certain subjects they needed help in.

About the lesson

Normally I would ask the student different question of all types in order for us to create a bond, for them to relax, and to help me determine what boundaries they set so we can have a respectful yet engaging conversation. Then I would ask them about the type of work they think they need help in, from there we would go ahead a set out a few problems. From the first few problems I get to determine what they said is really what they mean, if not I would tell them their pattern. Truly tutoring would be for short bursts of 20 min with 5 min inbetween in order to minimize overloading.

I have taught students of ages 6-18. Many of these personalities were loud, some were confused, a couple were reserved, and one was rambuctius.

Do not be afraid to speak up when you do not understand what they are explaining. So many people have nodded along but never truly understanding the process are the ones who do not retain the information.

My elementary class that I was tutoring createda postcard thanking me for helping them, truly a memoriable day because of their cute little signatures!
