About Guy

I've tutored students occasionally from grade school through college for over 20 years, have an understanding of the youth mindset since I coach youth sports, and have a daughter who has a learning disability that I needed to help her through.

The only math subjects that I am not comfortable tutoring is Geometry (which includes Analytic Geometry) and Calculus. All the other math disciplines are fine.

I like technical challenges, troubleshooting, and solving problems. I've worked in the computer industry for 28 years and the engineering field for 11 years. Both careers are constantly focused on solving technical problems.

I applied to tutor, teach, and coach when I realized I could help others learn academics and life lessons better through my trials and experiences.

My college degree is in electronic engineering working over 10 years in the field, transitioned to computer engineering working over 20 years, worked as a tutor and trainer during those 20 years, and I've coached high school sports over 15 years giving me insight into the minds of teenagers.

About the lesson

To do a discovery on the problem at hand, find out the type of learning style the student prefers, and to have the student explain how he or she solved other problems assigned.

Grade school through college whether they are taking standard or remedial courses.

Meet with the teacher twice and see if he or she is able to help you using terms and concepts you understand to help you learn more efficiently.

Seeing a student all of a sudden understand a concept and then able to apply it on their own.

Details

If I have to travel to tutor a high school or college student, I charge $35/hour. If I don't have to travel, it's $30/hour. It's $5 less respectively for grade school students.
