About Josh

I am working as a HVAC Design Engineer for a mechanical contractor and can not only help with tutoring math, but also give some insight into what it looks like to work as a design engineer in my field. I can also give some insight into what going through the classes at university will look like as far as upper level math having gone through Calc 4 in my engineering coursework.

I enjoy my day job because it is project oriented and different challenges arise each day. Throughout highschool and college I enjoyed working with my classmates to either explain or discover how to understand difficult concepts. The key for me is to be able to not only memorize information but to be able to think critically and apply various strategies of solving problems in mathematics or engineering classes. Truly understanding a concept is a reward in itself besides the good grades that result.

I graduated in 2016 from the University of MN - Twin Cities with a Mechanical Engineering degree and also an Applied Mathematics Degree from the University of Northwestern - St. Paul. The highest level of mathematics I have gone through is Calculus 4 (Differential Equations) and a slew of mechanical engineering courses including Heat Transfer, Fluid Dynamics, and Statics & Dynamics. I also tutored a masters student from Saudi Arabia in an english composition class while in college.

About the lesson

I would like to meet the student to better understand their goals and whether or not we would be a good fit to work together. If it seems like I would be able to help further their education or assist in understanding challenging concepts. We could then dive into that specific students coursework and I would try and put together helpful examples of whatever new topics they were learning in school.

Put together a list of acedmic goals you would like to accomplish in the school year and then try and find a teacher that sounds like they would be able to help fulfil those goals.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what areas are your strengths as well as weaknesses. This could help the teacher better understand how you learn and how to help in the areas you struggle.
