About Ricardo

I am an independent tutor that just completed his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I have a deep admiration for applied mathematics and the physical sciences and through my academic and industry experience I have come to understand the value that science brings to improve human quality of life. My background allows me to provide tutoring services in a number of topics ranging from basic mathematics to advanced college level engineering concepts. I currently hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, two master;s degree, one in Bioengineering and another one in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

I started tutoring as an undergradute engineering student and then I continued doing voluntary tutoring at Georgia Tech during my doctoral degree years. I have also volunteer in GED centers providing mathematics lessons.

Academically, I have completed a doctoral and master's degrees in engineering, which has required me to complete course in applied mathematics at all difficulty levels. In addition, I also have industry experience that is helpful to show students how mathematics are applied in real life problems..

About the lesson

The first step is to have an introductory interview with the student just to get to know each other. It is important to really understand the needs of the student and that will be dictated by making sure the student has clear goals. The next step consists on developing a tentative tutoring schedule with the topics to be discussed. The scheduling includes the topics to be discussed in the tutoring sessions and also the related homework and exam material.

The student should do an effort to define what he or she wants from the tutoring lessons. I say do an effort because as a tutor I would be more than glad to help the student formulate achievable goals.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How willing are they to work on the tutoring homework and exams? No matter how much intention I have for the student to succeed, it all goes back to the amount of effort the student puts on.
