About Trish

I’m a certified paraprofessional who has worked, tutoring and teaching, in public and private school settings. I’ve also provided instruction in private homes. I feel my students get more out of their lessons when learning is fun and there is a good rapport with their educator.

I have 15 years’ experience assisting pupils in mainstream classrooms, helping them to stay on task and not fall behind in their daily subjects. These include: English, Math, Reading, Writing, Science, History, and Social Studies. I’ve been involved with students who have had emotional disorders, ADHD, and autism spectrum classifications. I have also taught in many one-on-one and small focus group situations.

It has been so rewarding to see the progress my students have made in achieving their personal goals, while substantially improving their standardized testing scores. What a blessing our beloved "Miss Trish," as our girls called her, has been to our family this year. We had made the decision to enroll our girls (4th & 2nd Grade) in the virtual school program for the 2020-2021 academic year. With parents working full-time from home, we realized that an instrumental part of making this plan work involved hiring a Learning Coach to keep the girls on task with their assignments, and to help guide them through their learning. Trish came to us in the middle of the school year after our initial Learning Coach had a family emergency requiring her to leave, and completed the 3rd and 4th Quarters. The girls love her. She is patient, kind, reliable, organized, and clearly has a love for being around children. Whenever we need childcare, she will be the first name on our list, and we would highly recommend her to anyone. Trish was an absolutely amazing learning coach for both my girls ages 10 and 8 during this past year of virtual home schooling. I have seen such huge improvements in the both of them. She is extremely patient and really knows how to get through to them. I would highly recommend Trish in a heartbeat. I am so thankful that we found her. She will be very missed now that school is out for the summer.

At the time Trish worked at LAS. I was the Assistant Director. In this capacity I had the privilege of watching Trish and her interactions with students and staff. In both areas Trish was helpful, engaging, and able to anticipate a need. Trish worked as an aide in the school. However, there wasn't a job she did not offer to help with, be it yearbook, field trips, bulletin boards, coverage, or one to one tutoring.

My fondness of children led me to seeking a position in this field.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I set up a meeting to see if we're a good fit, find out what they're concerns are and what they would like to focus on. I also would mention that they be organized, and ready for assistance when I arrive.

I've worked with the general population in public schools. I also have experience with emotionally disturbed, mentally challenged children, and those who have been diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, ODD, Aspergers Syndrome, or are on the Autism Spectrum.

I would suggest the student make sure they have a good rapport with the tutor, don't be hesitant to ask questions and take advantage of their experience.

I was recently made aware that I was able to help my students reach a goal of substantially improving their standardized test scores.

They should think through what they struggle the most with, as well as what interests them, and what they would like to learn more about.
