I'm a firm beliver that learning should enrich and excite.
Unfortunately, that can be a challenge with the current pressures of being a student.
Working with students on developing an organized gameplan to achieve their goals so that they can breathe and find confidence and joy in learning is, conversely, a joy to witness.
Further, one of the biggest things that K-12--and even most undergrad education--lacks is dialogue between those in the roles of student and teacher.
I love creating a space for students to find and voice their opinions, concerns, questions, and musings about the things they learn.
I started tutoring ESOL as a volunteer teacher in the Adult Literacy program at Loudoun Literacy and math and chemistry through a pre-professional health honor society. I loved it so much that I decided to move into general private tutoring!

Throughout my 5+ years of experience, I have worked with adults learning English as a second language, middle and high school students preparing for the SAT/PSAT, students writing college admissions essays, undergraduates studying English, and students seeking support in their general k-12 coursework.
Spend some time reflecting what teaching styles have worked well for you in the past. Make sure your teacher is a good personal fit--do you leave feeling more confident? excited about the subject? I believe that learning should be a wholly enriching process, not just a means to an end.

Anne is great. Hardworking, top-notch English tutor. Our lessons were the highlight of my week, and I'm more confident with my English than ever before.
I've worked with Anne since I was in middle school (graduating high school now), and it's not a stretch to say she's changed my life for the better. Really, truly cares about her students. Plus, she's super effective. She helped me with my college essays and applications this year, and I was admitted to every school I applied to--most with scholarships.
Anne, I'll miss working with you! Thank you for everything!!She goes above and beyond to help with all requests. I had an important interview to prepare for, and she happily stayed long after our original lesson time to help me finish going over everything. She always sends very detailed and constructive notes after classes so I feel like I know exactly what I need to work on and what I'm doing well. I'm so thankful to have met Anne and had the opportunity to work together.
Anne is very kind and smart. I was so nervous about studying English and practicing my speaking, so she structured the class like a conversation. I always look forward to our lessons, and have learned so much in a short time. I've never met such a good English tutor!
Anne is the best tutor I have ever had, and I've worked with many. In addition to giving sharp, sophisticated insights in my writing, she is an incredibly kind person. Her infectious enthusiasm for learning and teaching has caused me to love a subject I was previously apathetic about. Her teaching style stands out in that she doesn't merely stick to the rubric, help me memorize facts, and lecture about subjects--she engages me in a broader dialogue about the deeper meanings and implications of things. As a result, I am a more curious, open minded, and engaged learner than ever before. Simply impossible to beat!
Anne is very intellectually passionate, which is really helpful when studying with/being taught by her. She pushes herself to learn for the sake of learning and her passion is contagious. When studying a topic with Anne, I can’t help but feel more attached to the subject and want to dig into it as deep as she does. No doubt an excellent tutor.
Anne helped me achieve my first Pass Advanced ever on my reading final exam and helped make math interesting for the first time. I am a more confident student and person throughout our work together and cannot recommend her highly enough.
Anne is an insightful, focused, and diligent teacher. Her sharp commentary and enriched video calls for my college essays were integral to my writing. She's the type that really reads into what students are looking for in lessons and provides meaningful, actionable advice. If you want a person that is communicative, effective, and welcoming -- this is the one.
