About Helen Clara

I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics and more than 20 years of experience teaching mathematics at the university and pre-university levels.

Throughout my career, I have taught students in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, and other STEM fields, adapting mathematical concepts and methods to the specific needs of each discipline. I have designed and taught courses in Calculus, Mathematical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Ordinary Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, and other areas of higher mathematics.

As a tutor, I adapt each lesson to the student's goals and learning style. If you are preparing for an exam, I can design focused sessions that review the essential concepts, methods, and problem-solving techniques you need. If you want a deeper understanding of mathematics, I can also help you work through definitions, proofs, theorems, and the reasoning behind mathematical properties, not just memorize formulas.

I am comfortable working with students at different levels and can provide explanations ranging from intuitive and practical to rigorous and theoretical.

I also have experience with mathematical and scientific programming, particularly in Python, MATLAB, and AMPL, as well as some experience with C++ mathematical libraries.

I teach online in both English and Spanish.

About the lesson

My online lessons are structured, interactive, and adapted to each student's needs.

I usually work with a clear reference, such as a presentation, textbook, course notes, or the student's own class materials, so that each lesson is connected to what the student is currently studying. I use a digital whiteboard to explain concepts, solve exercises step by step, and work through proofs when needed.

Rather than simply presenting formulas or procedures, I encourage students to understand new concepts by analyzing examples, identifying patterns, and drawing conclusions from the problems we solve together.

For students in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, or other non-mathematics fields, I also try to connect mathematical concepts with practical applications from their area of study. This helps make the material more meaningful and easier to understand.

Lessons can be focused on exam preparation, homework support, problem solving, or a deeper understanding of the theory, depending on the student's goals.
