About Gillian

I believe that teaching math can and should be engaging and fun whenever possible.
Need more? Here are a few reviews from past and current students and their parents:
"I am so happy that we found Gill to help support my son in Math. She is giving my son targeted support for what he is learning in class as well as in other areas of deficit. As a teacher myself I can appreciate Gill's approach to identifying where my son has gaps and working efficiently to close them! I would highly recommend Gill as a tutor!" Stephanie - Grade 8 French Mathematics
"Gillian is currently tutoring my 9-year-old daughter in math and I couldn’t be happier with her. She has a great personality, is super friendly and down to earth, and uses methods that make my daughter actually understand and retain what she is learning! I am so thankful we found her!" Irena - Grade 4 Mathematics
"Gill is a very effective teacher. My eight-year-old daughter said she can explain concepts in very simple and easy-to-follow ways. With the help of Gill, my daughter is now more fond of Math." Connie - Grade 3 Mathematics
"Gillian did everything possible to tutor and help me prepare for an algebra exam that was less than 24 hours away. When we were finally able to connect, she was amazing, in fact, one of the best teachers I have ever had. She ensured that I understood all the topics on the exam as well as ensuring that I would be mentally/emotionally prepared. I appreciated her dedication and willingness to support me in an extremely stressful time." Leon - College Mathematics student
"My daughter’s understanding of math has gone through the roof in the first weeks of studying with Gill. She has made amazing progress by being able to stay focused and overcoming her fear of Math. What’s most important, is that she now has the confidence to participate openly and proactively during school math classes. We most definitely plan to continue working with Gill." Yu - Primary Math
"I was looking for an online tutor that spoke French because my daughter's school is all in French and I don't speak the language. I needed someone to help her with her homework, especially math. She is in Grade 4. Gill has been accommodating to our crazy schedule since day one and my stepdaughter adores her. She is super patient and makes it fun for her. I highly recommend her!" Sara - Grade 4 French Immersion Math and French
"Gill is a fantastic and attentive tutor who likely made the difference between a pass and a fail for me. She is willing to put a lot aside in order to help you improve your chances of success- her genuine passion for helping others and working with children is truly inspiring. A trained teacher and warm presence, Gill will effectively explain complex concepts and have fun doing it." Maeve - Grade 10 Math
"Gill is a wonderful and mindful tutor. She takes her time explaining every concern or question I have. She will gear her way of teaching and explain things in the way I can understand them. I am a grade 11 student and I can come to Gill with any question regarding my functions course and she will always have the answer. She is a very kind-hearted person, who still knows how to keep the space uplifted!" Kiran - Grade 11 and Grade 10 Math
"My son is in Algebra II with trigonometry. Gill has been an amazing tutor. She has been able to explain things in a way he quickly understands. His grade has improved and he is now able to help other students!!" Kylie - Algebra II with Trig
"Gill is patient, kind and predictable. Gill's expertise in Math is evident and was able to support my son with various academic units. Gill offers consistent positive reinforcement and praise. Gill is a great tutor and we highly recommend her :)" Ryan - Grade 10 Math

About the lesson

My teaching methods combine a variety of strategies and philosophies. I believe that in so many cases we tend to "throw the baby out with the bath water" when it comes to new educational pedagogy. I have found that there needs to be a good balance of "old school" methods and newer "high order thinking". We need to learn to walk before we can run and math is no different. A sound understanding of the basics will lead to automaticity in math facts and as a result will allow students to navigate more difficult questions with greater ease.

Perfect! Gillian knows how to teach. My daughter has had two math teachers that just seem to confuse rather than teach. Gillian is able to simplify things so she learns. Gillian also makes herself available for follow questions which is a huge benefit having to learn in an online platform. We will continue to use Gillians services for the remainder of my daughters time in high school.

Gill understands what her students need. She is able to identify where my son needs extra support while ensuring that he feels safe and secure in the lesson. My son tends to be a nervous learner that needs reassurance and boosts to his confidence. Gill regularly reminds him that mistakes are needed to grow and learn. As she continues to push him outside his comfort zone we are seeing gains in his learning and confidence.
