About Anita

I have been teaching for over 20 years in many parts of the world. I have taught umpteen students. Most of the students are well settled. I feel that the role of a teacher is of critical importance. One has to identify the needs of her students and adapt accordingly. Learning a language is a cooperative process, whereby the teacher acts as a suitable guide to help the students generate and develop the required skills for language learning. I am very keen on online teaching as I strongly believe that it provides a teacher with tremendous scope for innovation and creativity. Furthermore, online teaching also gives greater flexibility to both the teacher and the student, paving the path for engaging and fun-filled lessons. If I get this job opportunity, I would be able to utilize all my years of experience as an EFL teacher constructively.

I have worked as an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher. I have worked in different parts of the world, to name a few: England, Poland, Indonesia, Egypt, and India. I provide classes to students in General English, Business English, IELTS, Young Learners, etc. I have been teaching students of all age groups and from different walks of life. The English language in the present scenario is being used as a skill. Different professions require language lessons that enhance their communication and make it more effective. The approach which I adhere to is the 'Communicative Approach'. The lessons are made interactive with the help of a variety of activities.

  • What motivates you to teach and why?

The challenges I face as a teacher. these help me to understand the needs and requirements of my students. It gives me a sense of achievement when I see my students getting what they desired.
  • When did you start developing an interest in your subject area?

When I was in Oxford. I enrolled in the ITC training programme which was being conducted by Oxford ESOL centre. While doing the course I realized that this field is vast and there is so much to learn. Since then my journey started as an EFL trainer and my interest started growing.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of and why?

The person I would like to mention is Bogna Skorupka who was the language head of the EFL department at WSB-NLU university in Poland. I really admired her managerial skills and the way she handled different situations. She was also a very nice person and an excellent teacher.
  • What is the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in mastering your craft?

Though my nationality is British, I am of Indian origin. I started teaching at least two decades back. At that time the concept of English language teaching was restricted to a few nationalities only. This made my acceptance as an EFL trainer quite difficult as I am a person of colour. So to prove my worth as an EFL teacher, especially for my students, was quite challenging. At the same time, I must admit that it was a very rewarding experience to win the confidence of my students and get accepted.
  • In your opinion, what makes someone excel in your subject area?

Well in order to excel you have to be a mentor first. If you are an EFL teacher it is expected that you will have good knowledge about the subject. We as teachers often forget that there is a lot more to it than this. It is very important to connect with your students. This not only helps you to understand them better but also enhances the learning process. This learning process is applicable not only to the students but the teachers as well. I completely believe that there is no end to learning and it is high time we as teachers realize this.
  • What would you say to a student who says, "This is too difficult, I give up!"?

Before saying anything I would like to reflect on my lesson. This will give me some idea about the problem a student is facing in a particular lesson. After that, I would like to talk and discuss it at length with my student. I would give him every freedom to give me feedback about the lesson and the problems he is facing in specific areas.
  • How does someone become a Super Teacher?

Well according to me there are no super teachers. We as teachers are either good or not so good.
