About Zijian

I am a children's doctor in my day job. I have always excelled academically growing up - however, I am also a well rounded and social person and have a natural talent in teaching. I can break down difficult concepts into manageable chunks of knowledge - and currently I am completing a masters degree in medical education (although lots of transferrable skills there that can apply to generic teaching too).

Learning does not need to be tedious, and I am good at engaging with pupils and spark their interest in learning. I am also committed to provide them more personalised support with patience, on any learning they may have found difficult at school but teachers have had too little time to explain in more detail.

I have a positive and can-do attitude. I am committed to helping my pupils achieve their desired grades, but more importantly realise their life potential and career aspiration. There is no greater joy than being able to make a difference and see children and young people thrive and succeed!

About the lesson

My teaching styles combine both didactic and interactive styles depending on the content that is being taught. For factual knowledge and basic concepts, I tend to go through the content in a more matter-of-fact approach; whereas in applied concepts I will guide and encourage students to critically think and work out the learning points using a logical and methodical approach.

My typical lessons will be 30-45 mins in length, depending on the age and obviously attention span of the pupil. I am happy to teach Mathematics and basic sciences at GCSE level. My preferred student age range would be 11-15.

I work as a doctor in my day job and graduated from University of Southampton medical school in 2017.
